Merit Badge Counselor Form

To qualify as a merit badge counselor, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Be proficient in the merit badge subject by vocation, avocation, or special training.
  • Be able to work with Scout-age boys.
  • Be registered with the Boy Scouts of America by completing and submitting an adult application and disclosure form. (See below for a link to the form and instructions for submitting.)
  • Be Youth Protection Trained (visit myscouting.org for online training)

As a merit badge counselor, I agree to:

  • Follow the requirements of the merit badge, making no deletions or additions, ensuring that the advancement standards are fair and uniform for all Scouts.
  • Have a Scout and his buddy present at all instructional sessions.
  • Renew my registration annually if I plan to continue as a merit badge counselor.
  • Take Youth Protection Training every 2 years

When submitting this form, your application is only good through the calendar year. New Merit Badge Counselor applications must be submitted each year.

No fees are required to be a Merit Badge Counselor.

Merit Badge Counselors are required to be registered with the Boy Scouts of America.

All Merit Badge Counselors Must fill out an Adult Member Application!
Adult BSA member applications may be downloaded and filled out electronically, but must be printed and signed to be accepted. This must be done even if you are registered with your Pack/Troop.

Submit completed and signed Adult BSA member applications via one of the following ways:

  • Mail or deliver to the Durham Scout Center, 12401 West Maple Road, Omaha, NE 68164
  • Fax to 402.431.0444
  • Email to Registration1@mac-bsa.org

This Merit Badge Counselor form will not be considered complete until we receive your application. It will be held in pending until BSA member application is submitted.
