What is it?
The James E. West Fellowship Award is recognition for individuals who contribute $1,000 or more in cash or securities to their local council endowment trust fund.
What is new?
The James E. West Fellowship has added new levels of West recognition. Contributions are cumulative and increase with each level as follows:
||$2,500 to $4,999
||$5,000 to $9,999
||$10,000 to $14,999
||$15,000 to $25,000
This contribution is in addition to, and does not diminish or replace, the donor's annual gift to the council's Sustaining Membership Enrollment of Investment in Character Campaign.
Organizations or individuals may contribute an award in honor of someone: a family member, an Eagle Scout, a Silver Beaver recipient, council president, district chairman, etc.; or in memory of a departed loved one, business associate or special Scouter.
Form of Recognition
The James E. West Fellowship Entry Level Award ($1,000) is an attractive 8-by-10-inch certificate, personalized with the donor's name, distinctive lapel pin and embroidered square knot for uniform wear. While it is a national recognition, the James E. West Fellowship Award is authorized and presented by the local council. Appropriate national recognition will be given at a special event determined by the donor and council. Recognition is presented when full payment is received.
Background and Significance
The award is named after the first Chief Scout Executive of the Boy Scouts of America who exemplified Ralph Waldo Emerson's observation that "an institution is the lengthened shadow of one man." Scouting today is the "lengthened shadow" of more than three decades of the farseeing and dedicated leadership of Dr. James E. West.
Methods of Payment
Donations can be made in increments over the next 12 months. The entire balance of the donation is due prior to the end of this time.
